Traveling to Alaska in 2020

TESTING

The State of Alaska is currently requiring people traveling to Alaska to have a PCR-based COVID-19 test within 72 hours of departure for your flight to Alaska. If you trip extends longer than 14 days, the State of Alaska is requesting that you take a second COVID-19 test within 7-14 days after your arrival to Alaska.

If you are unable to get a test locally, there are several companies that offer test kits by mail. However, they guarantee results within 72-hours of the sample reaching the lab. The State of Alaska recognizes that not everyone will get their test result before arrival in Alaska, even if you have tested within the 72-hours prior to departure. In that case, you want to bring proof that a test was taken and quarantine until you get your test results. You may quarantine with us in Old Harbor, and overnighting on the way to your quarantine location is allowable. Please contact us if you are thinking of a trip but need help working out the logistics, we are happy to help and answer any questions.

You may test upon arrival in Alaska (at the Anchorage Steven International Airport) through the State and self-quarantine until you get your results. The cost of the State of Alaska COVID test is $250. You will be required to have a second COVID test within 7-14 days after your arrival in Alaska, or your departure from Alaska, whichever is soonest.

PORTAL

There is an online portal the State of Alaska has set up where incoming travelers from outside of Alaska register their travel plans and proof of a negative COVID test. Instructions for navigating that portal can be found here.

If you leave the terminal in Anchorage, you will be required to go through the COVID-19 Screening Process where they pull up the results of your COVID-19 test though the online portal. If you are unable to enter your information into the portal, you must have written proof of your negative COVID test. If you are awaiting your test results, bring proof that you took a PCR-based COVID test within 72-hours of your departure and be prepared to quarantine until you get your test results.
